The founder of TIDE, University Professor Maydianne Andrade will be leaving the University of Toronto to assume the role of Dean, Faculty of Science at York University, effective January 1, 2026.
Professor Andrade’s 25-year career in the Department of Biological Sciences at U of T Scarborough has been defined by groundbreaking, award-winning research, transformative leadership, and unwavering advocacy. Beyond her scientific achievements, Professor Andrade has been a champion for equity in STEMM. She was a co-founder of the University of Toronto’s Black Research Network (BRN) and of the Canadian Black Scientists Network, for which she served as inaugural President. She has mentored hundreds of students and early-career researchers. Her leadership has left an indelible mark on our institution and the broader academic community.
